1 / 4📖Reading Passage— Jasmine's Billycart
Every Saturday morning, Jasmine and her grandad worked together in the shed behind their Queensland home. They were building a billycart, and Jasmine could hardly wait to race it down the grassy hill at the park. Grandad showed her how to measure the timber, sand the rough edges smooth, and tighten each bolt until it would not wobble. Jasmine chose a bright yellow colour for the body because it was her favourite. She painted careful stripes along the sides while the paint dripped onto her old shirt. The wheels came from an ancient pram that had been gathering dust in the garage for years. When they finally finished, Grandad lifted the billycart onto the grass and grinned. "You built most of this yourself," he said proudly. Jasmine recognised how much she had learned. She climbed aboard, gripped the steering rope, and rolled gently forward. The breeze tickled her face as the wheels rumbled beneath her. She did not win any prize that day, but she felt happier than ever. Together, they had created something special, and that was the greatest reward of all.
