Free Year 9 Sample space and probability Practice | Skillo
Year 9 students sitting their final NAPLAN need to be confident with sample space and probability. Identify the sample space for single-stage events; assign probabilities to outcomes. Skillo has targeted practice questions for this exact skill, mapped to the Australian Curriculum v9.0, free and ready to go.

Sample questions
Question 1 — Easy
A bag contains 3 red marbles, 5 blue marbles and 2 green marbles. One marble is chosen at random. What is the probability of picking a blue marble?
Answer: There are 5 blue marbles out of 10 total (3 + 5 + 2 = 10). Probability = 5/10 = 1/2.
Question 2 — Medium
A school tuck shop in Melbourne sells fruit boxes. The probability that a randomly selected box contains a mango is 0.35, and the probability it contains a banana is 0.45. Assuming no box contains both fruits, what is the probability that a student selects a box containing neither mango nor banana?
Answer: P(mango or banana) = 0.35 + 0.45 = 0.80. P(neither) = 1 − 0.80 = 0.20.
