Sample questions
Question 1 — Easy
Priya puts 5 stickers on each page of her scrapbook. She fills 4 pages. How many stickers does she use altogether?
Answer: 4 groups of 5 equals 20, so Priya uses 20 stickers altogether. Option A is wrong because 9 comes from adding 5 and 4 instead of multiplying. Option B is wrong because 25 is 5 times 5, not 4 times 5. Option D is wrong because 16 is 4 times 4, not 4 times 5.
Question 2 — Medium
Zac collected 324 cans for a food drive. Mia collected 153 cans. How many cans did they collect altogether?
Answer: Adding 324 and 153 gives 477. Adding the ones: 4 + 3 = 7, the tens: 2 + 5 = 7, and the hundreds: 3 + 1 = 4, giving 477. Option A results from an error in the ones column, C from an error in the tens column, and D from adding an extra ten.
Question 3 — Hard
A monitoring team collected 158 soil samples to pack into boxes of 12. How many boxes will be needed to store ALL the samples?
Answer: 158 ÷ 12 = 13 remainder 2. Thirteen full boxes hold 156 samples, but 2 samples remain — these need a 14th box. Always round UP when packing physical items. Option B (13) ignores the remaining 2 samples. Option A (12) — too few. Option C (16) is excessive.
