Priya is practising long jump at school sports day. Her best jump was 2.47 metres. Which decimal is between 2.4 and 2.5?

A) 2.38
B) 2.47
C) 2.51
D) 2.09

Answer: 2.47 sits between 2.40 and 2.50 because it has 4 tenths and 7 hundredths, making it greater than 2.4 and less than 2.5. Option A (2.38) is less than 2.4, Option C (2.51) is greater than 2.5, and Option D (2.09) is much less than 2.4.

Question 3 — Hard

Priya is timing herself in a school swimming carnival. Her best lap time is 48.73 seconds. Which of these lap times is greater than 48.73 seconds?

A) 48.69 seconds
B) 48.7 seconds
C) 48.09 seconds
D) 48.81 seconds

Answer: Option D is correct — 48.81 is greater than 48.73 because 81 hundredths is more than 73 hundredths. Options A (48.69), B (48.7 = 48.70), and C (48.09) are all less than 48.73.
