Sample questions

Question 1Easy

Anika collected 40 stickers at the school fair. She gave half to her friend and then divided her remaining stickers equally into 4 groups. How many stickers are in each group?

A) 10
B) 20
C) 8
D) 5

Answer: First, half of 40 is 20, so Anika has 20 stickers remaining. Then 20 ÷ 4 = 5, so each group has 5 stickers. Option A (10) results from dividing the original 40 by 4 without halving first, option C (8) does not follow from either step correctly, and option D (20) is just the result of the first step without completing the second step.

Question 2Medium

Priya has 24 grapes. She wants to divide them equally into 4 bags. How many grapes will go in each bag?

A) 4
B) 12
C) 8
D) 6

Answer: A quarter of 24 means dividing 24 into 4 equal parts. 24 ÷ 4 = 6, so each bag gets 6 grapes. Option A confuses the number of parts with the answer. Option C comes from dividing by 3 instead of 4. Option D comes from halving 24 instead of finding a quarter.

Question 3Hard

Priya is saving money to buy a game that costs $50. She has already saved $32. How much more money does she need to save?

A) 18 dollars
B) 22 dollars
C) 28 dollars
D) 82 dollars

Answer: Option A is correct — 50 − 32 = 18. Priya still needs to save $18.
