Sample questions

Question 1Easy

Which sentence has CORRECT punctuation?

A) the dog barked at the other pets.
B) the dog Barked at the other Pets.
C) The dog barked at the other pets.
D) The dog barked at the other pets

Answer: Option C is correct: it starts with a CAPITAL letter ('The') and ends with a FULL STOP. Option A starts with a lowercase letter — sentences must begin with a capital. Option B capitalises 'Barked' and 'Pets' incorrectly — only proper nouns and the first word of a sentence get capitals. Option D has no full stop at the end.

Question 2Medium

Choose the correct preposition of place to complete the sentence. The baby joey was resting ___ its mother's pouch.

A) over
B) inside
C) around
D) between

Answer: Prepositions of place tell us where something is. 'Inside' means within something — the joey rests inside the pouch. 'Over' means above something. 'Around' means surrounding something on the outside. 'Between' is used to show something is in the middle of two things. Only 'inside' correctly describes where a joey rests in the pouch.

Question 3Hard

'The seagull swooped _____ and grabbed the chip.' Which word correctly fills the gap as an ADVERB?

A) seagull
B) grabbed
C) quickly
D) chip

Answer: 'Quickly' is an ADVERB — it describes HOW the seagull swooped (the verb). Adverbs modify verbs. Option A ('seagull') is a NOUN — it names a thing. Option B ('grabbed') is a VERB — it shows another action. Option D ('chip') is a NOUN.
